JCT launches education and training initiative

A new initiative to be rolled out by the Joint Contracts Tribunal (JCT) in phases during 2011, provides ways for students, contract users and education providers to gain skills in the use of contracts and their administration, and delivers information on teaching and learning about JCT Contracts.

Students will benefit not only from access to resources to gain a full understanding of JCT Contracts and their use, but the initiative also provides context to the role of contracts within the wider industry. This gives students a full understanding of the importance of construction and the potential of working within the built environment.

In Autumn 2011 the JCT will launch its Student Education and Training Grants which will give young people a chance to win one of a number of bursaries towards the cost of courses. Students can register their interest now in joining the JCT Student Group.

For Education and Training Providers, JCT is launching a new service, the JCT Contracts Academic Box Set. This is an education and training provider pack which includes:

  • the complete set of JCT Contracts;
  • the JCT Contracts Digital Service; and
  • an invitation to become a member of the JCT Education and Training Provider Group.

Once membership of the JCT Education and Training Provider Group has been activated, members will be entitled to a range of further benefits, including:

  • a JCT email helpline for lecturers and trainers;
  • subsidised places at JCT seminars, events, workshops and conferences;
  • promotional opportunities for education and training courses;
  • access to the JCT expert speaker list; and
  • two free guaranteed tickets to the JCT annual Povey Lecture.

The Academic Box-Set is a limited offer and is only available to recognised education and training bodies. You can register your interest by emailing stanform@jctltd.co.uk. JCT is also working to develop the skills of all those within the supply chain in areas of procurement and the use of construction contracts, and their administration. Further information for contract users will be available throughout the year as JCT rolls out the initiative.

To support this new education and training initiative, the JCT Online section of the website will be dedicated to providing access to a range of relevant information, including guidance notes, JCT news, case studies, JCT events and consultation documents.
