New Year and New Colleagues

18/01/2018

Watts has started the New Year as we mean to go on: by continuing to grow and welcoming four new colleagues. We have been joined by Ryan Browne (Project Surveyor), Harvy Flora (Building Surveyor), Rebecca Gallagher (PA), and India Hicks (Senior Project Manager). As always, we value getting to know each other and some of our new colleagues kindly agreed to tell us a bit about themselves:

What made you join Watts?

Ryan: I wanted to join a well-established but growing consultancy company and to gain exposure to a wider variety of work and projects.

Harvy: As one of the leading national consultancies, I am looking forward to developing my career with Watts. Watts has an inspiring and well recognised reputation within the industry. I am looking forward to the challenges and development opportunities offered while working with a great team.

Rebecca: I wanted to diversify my career from retail into an administrative role where I could put my skills from university more to use.

Tell us about your career so far

Ryan: Following my graduation I initially worked as a QS before moving into contract administration and site management roles. I have been involved with a range of projects from residential refurbishments through to commercial fit-outs and new builds.

Harvy: My career so far has predominately been within the retail sector as a Project Manager and Building Surveyor. I have been involved in projects from feasibility to completion from which I have gained an understanding of projects and various stake holder involvement. My career began delivering petrol filling stations for supermarket retailer. I have also worked on a nationwide programme of retail store fit outs.
As a Building Surveyor I have carried out feasibility studies as part of an expansion of convenience stores, acted for both Landlords and Tenants for Dilapidation claims, provided Contract Administration services, carried out Building Surveys / inspections and provided reports and also managed fire reinstatement works.

Rebecca: I have worked all through my school and university years mostly in retail roles and then more recently an administrative role for a transport company.

What does your role involve?

Ryan: Pre- and post-contract quantity surveying.

Harvy: My role will involve providing Building Surveying services with the Leeds office, initially for a public sector client.

What achievement are you most proud of?

Rebecca: My greatest achievement to date I think would be graduating with a BA (Hons) in International Business. I never seen myself being successful in university so this is something I am extremely proud of.

Tell us a fun fact about yourself

Ryan: I’ve recently returned to the UK after spending the last four and a half years working in Vietnam, New Zealand and Australia.

Harvy: I have a personal best deadlift of 170kg. I am hoping to burn off some Christmas food and improve on this!

Rebecca: In 2006 I won a competition with Blue Peter which got me an invitation to the Queens 80th Birthday Party in Buckingham Palace!
