1. All aboard Hogwarts Express

London Director, Tim French was delighted to be invited to the opening of the latest phase of work at the Warner Brothers’ Making of Harry Potter experience at Leavesden Studios which includes the original Hogwarts Express and a re-creation of Platform 9¾. Our role as Project Managers for the extension to the tour – which opened to the public on 19 March - is the latest in a relationship going back to the beginning of the site redevelopment. It’s been a fascinating and exciting few years, working around film crews and with the ‘can do’ culture that epitomises this very creative business.

2. Spotlight on ... Scotland

A new office location and series of project wins has got 2015 off to a great start for Watts’ operation in Scotland. Commissions from Menzies Distribution, Scottish Water and Viewpoint Housing Association have been secured, whilst the Edinburgh office has moved to 10 Castle Street providing space for expected expansion.

Our expansion has been noticed with press coverage in the Scotsman and Daily Business Group

3. Kings College Hospital Helipad takes shape

Building a new critical care unit and helipad at Kings College Hospital in south east London is one of our most complex current project management commissions. One of our latest challenges involved the closure of Denmark Hill whilst a 50-tonne mobile tower crane was installed, one of only two or three in the UK. More unusually, the team has devised a way to keep the emergency helicopters flying the air despite the presence of two towers cranes very near the flight path.

4. University Challenge, AUDE 2015

A team from Watts is attending the Association of University Estates Directors’ Annual Conference this year. Taking place in Stirling in the run up to May’s election, the team is expecting the uncertainty of what the future has in store to dominate conversation, especially in the light of more reports on the importance potential students place on the quality of buildings and facilities. Fortunately we’re in a great position to advise on strategies to assess and plan for the future whatever the hue of the next Government.
