Watts welcomed new colleagues and got to know them, read their stories here.

As Watts continues “Building Relationships” and delivering high levels of Building Surveying, Project Management and Cost Consultancy Services to our clients across multiple Sectors, we are delighted to welcome two new colleagues in our Belfast and London offices: Building Surveyor Shannon Breen (Belfast), and Project Manager Adam Pleeth (London). To get to know them a bit better we asked them a few questions.

What made you join Watts?
Shannon: Watts has always been a company that I have associated with growth and success. Considering that the company has many offices across the UK I have always known that Watts is constantly expanding. The successful reputation of the company paired with its growing workforce shows how Watts are leaving their footprint on the construction industry, which is something I would very much like to be a part of.

Adam:  I am well aware that Watts is a company with a great reputation in the industry, I felt that joining Watts would enable me to gain exposure to really interesting projects, whilst also giving me the opportunity to access great training opportunities and progress my career.

Tell us about your career so far
Shannon: In July 2016 I graduated from the University of Ulster with Honours in Building Surveying and a Diploma in Professional Practice. My DPP was obtained by successfully completing a one year placement within The Belfast Health & Social Care Trust. Whilst there I worked in many different departments including Contracts, Projects and Operations.  Throughout my final two years of university I worked part-time alongside a conservation surveyor, Chris McCollum, where I worked on some fascinating projects.

Since graduating, I continued to work alongside Chris for a few months before I temporarily moved to Melbourne, Australia in October 2016. Whilst working part time in hospitality I spent the remainder of my time shadowing my Uncle who has a degree in Architecture and holds a Project Managers position within the company Walter Crop.

Adam: This is my first permanent job! I completed a degree in Real Estate Management from Oxford Brookes University in 2014, since graduating I have done some internships and spent some time travelling, before deciding project management was the route I wanted to take into the property industry.

What do you love about what you do?
Shannon: There are so many things about my work that I love. I have always had a keen interest in Architecture which is why I took on Construction as one of my A levels many years ago. Conservation Surveying is one area of my work that I love over all others. I am always striving to learn more about all types of Historic buildings both in the UK and further afield which is why I love to travel. I also find that the role of a Building Surveyor allows me to always be meeting new and interesting people, whether it be in the office, out on site or even collaborating with other companies.

What achievements/qualifications are you most proud of?
Adam: The qualification I am most proud of would be receiving First Class Honours in my Real Estate Management degree from Oxford Brookes.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Shannon: I have always been an animal lover and I am a registered volunteer with many animal charities across Northern Ireland. In my spare time I try to visit them and contribute to their ongoing struggle of animal welfare. I am also a registered volunteer with MacMillan Cancer Care and I annually try to organise events which will raise funds for their worthy causes.

On a weekly basis I enjoy keeping active, whether it’s taking the dog for a walk or competing in local runs organised in my community. Every year my family and I join together to create a relay team to run in the Belfast Marathon. Each year we raise funds for a worthy charity and each year we pick a different one. This year we are currently training for the ‘Blood Sweat & Tears’ 10k mud run which takes place in November, we are raising money for The Niamh Louise Foundation.

Adam: In my spare time I enjoy playing sports, with tennis and hockey being my favourites. I also enjoy going skiing when I get the opportunity!

Tell us a fun fact about yourself
Shannon: I am a huge Art fan and always try to base my travels on which famous art I will get to see. To name a few of my favourites: Andy Warhol’s Campbell soup Cans (New York), The Weeping Woman by Picasso (Barcelona) and The Mona Lisa & The Last Supper by Leonardo Da Vinci (Paris & Rome).

Adam: I am a qualified Ski Instructor, I have spent time working as a ski instructor in Canada and Japan.
