"Leases are like car boot sales, on the surface full of junk, but with the right knowledge if you look closely enough there is treasure to be found."

Ian Laurie joined Watts at the start of 1996, having then recently qualified as a chartered building surveyor, and was promoted to director in May 2013.  Working initially in both commercial and housing departments, Ian has undertaken a variety of survey and projects works, including surveys on landmark buildings such as the Manchester (MEN) Arena and the CIS tower.

Ian has always been interested in dilapidations matters and now specialises in this area, both heading the dilapidations group in Manchester and playing a central role in Watts dilapidations service delivery throughout the company.  Ian’s specialist knowledge means he regularly works in conjunction with group offices, and in particular Leeds and Birmingham, on a variety of cases, and has undertaken the rare appointment of surveyor for both landlord and tenant on a number of dilapidations matters.

Ian also regularly acts as an expert witness both on dilapidations matters, and with regards more general building defects.

Ian regularly provides talks to local colleges and fellow professional, both on behalf of Watts and other organisations, such as the RICS, and is a contributor to the Watts Pocket Handbook.
