Environment Agency commissions Watts in Bristol

The Environment Agency’s move to Cabot House in Central Bristol will be facilitated by Watts Group Plc, Bristol. The contract to monitor the development of Cabot House; project manage the fit-out; complete the BREEAM assessment of the fit-out of the  building and monitor the environmental impacts of the project, follows the highly successful consultation between Watts and the Environment Agency on the property business case, property selection and feasibility of the office move.

The Environment Agency’s decision to move to Cabot House follows detailed consultation with Watts who have project managed the business case to assist in the selection of a new head office within Bristol. Since the location was confirmed, Watts has worked to ensure the design is both sustainable and commercially viable and has aided in the achievement of an excellent 84-point BREEAM rating for the head office design. The construction will be completed by Westmark and will provide significant savings for the Environment Agency annually from their current locations in Aztec West, Westbury on Trym and Bath. The project is due to be completed by the end of 2010.

Watts is delighted to be working with the Environment Agency on this important project as it demonstrates their commitment to sustainable construction. As project managers, Watts will be responsible for facilitating the Environment Agency’s commitment to maximising their reduction of CO2 emissions by 2012. The building specification will include a natural ventilation system; a comprehensive rainwater harvesting system; on site renewable energy sources including solar thermal, photovoltaic’s and a ground source heat pump. These will help meet the building’s energy needs and a green management plan will minimise the use of energy, water and reduce waste.

The team working with the Environment Agency consists of Robert Hillman, Director; Patrick McDonald, Associate and Sam Pickering, Building Surveyor and BREEAM Assessor.
