Party Wall Changes

The recent change to the party wall legislation will, we hope, make the issuing of these important documents faster and more efficient. An amendment to the Party Wall etc. Act 1996 came into force on 6th April enabling statutory notices and Awards to be served by email for the first time.

On the face of it, this is good news for all those involved speeding up the process and potentially as a result reducing costs. However, we do need to be aware of issues which may result, from establishing whether a general email address is sufficient to how to deal with an ‘out of office’ message from one or more parties.

It will be interesting to see how this new amendment is put into practice, not only via the use of email, but through the use of social media and potentially file sharing sites. The Watts team will be on hand to guide clients through the application of 21st Century technology to party wall matters.
