Roof Works

Murray Edwards College

The grade II* listed Rosemary Murray Library roof comprises a 26m x 6m x 8 section precast concrete post tensioned barrel rising above a flat apron perimeter. The insulated render waterproof covering was installed in 2002 and had reached the end of its design life.  With the installed product no longer available, Watts were appointed to consider options within the listed building restrictions – reversible, maintain height/profile, sympathetic appearance.

Watts arranged for intrusive roof investigations to establish the condition and build up of the complete system, preparing a technical advisory report with clear options and recommendations considering the Client’s decarbonization plan for improvement in the thermal performance and the waterproofing materials, prior to securing listed building consent.

Watts arranged emergency remedial repairs, before  specifying, procuring and successfully contract administering these technically challenging works comprising purpose made spliced PIR insulation; fleece reinforced PMMA with white textured finish to create a high quality, seamless, render like appearance; replacement parapet cappings; repaired lightning protection and new safetyline installation.
